York Early Childhood Intervention
Early Adopters Program
As of July 1, 2024, the York School Department, in partnership with the Maine Department of Education, is committed to meeting the needs of children, ages 3-5, by improving educational opportunities, accommodations, and services for children with special needs and their families.
The York Early Childhood Intervention Team, will provide a continuum of support ensuring that a full range of program options are available. We acknowledge that all students have unique needs and we are committed to providing evaluations and programming to meet those needs.
The York Early Childhood Intervention Team is multidisciplinary and works collaboratively with families and local agencies, including but not limited to Preschool Teachers, Physicians, and Community Service Providers, to create environments and programs that promote success for students and families.
We will continue to seek feedback from the community to improve the experience for families. We hope to inspire all who work and learn with us to aspire to excellence and to create a model of service delivery that can be adopted statewide, promoting this opportunity for all families in the State of Maine.
Our services include:
Classroom observations and consultation with families or preschool professionals to create environments that promote success for all children.
Formal evaluations to determine if a disability is impacting a child’s development, either functionally or academically.
Therapeutic interventions (occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, physical therapy).
Direct instruction can be delivered in various settings to optimize skill development. These services can be provided in the child’s Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) or within our clinic spaces at Village Elementary School.
Please reach out to us if you have concerns for a child ages 3-5.

2 Proofs of Residency
"Residency" is defined as actual residence in the town where a person ordinarily and primarily sleeps, has meals, and conducts leisure activities throughout the school year, more than 50% of the time.
Ownership or rental of property alone does not establish residency. Evidence of residency may include an address on a valid driver's license, valid (current) registration of vehicles, voter registration where a homestead exemption is claimed, mailing address, legal residence as stated on State and Federal tax returns, and days per week and weeks per year that parent(s) or guardian(s) is domiciled in the Town, but these individual factors will not control if the weight of evidence does not establish residency as defined above.
Original Birth Certificate - photocopies and digital copies are not accepted. The original must be brought in and a photocopy will be made in the office.
