Steve Hamel has been volunteering in the York Schools for over 13 years! He began helping when his daughters became involved with theater in elementary school. His daughters have both now graduated and Steve continues to volunteer countless hours to York Schools Drama Program. Steve focuses his talents behind the scenes in our York Community Auditorium, providing the technical direction for all of the York High Drama and Middle School productions and also for the York Parks and Rec productions. Theater is a hobby that Steve loves and he also enjoys performing in seacoast area productions. He is passionate about the lighting, sound and projections he creates with the amazing equipment that the YCA offers. The York Schools Volunteer Program thanks Steve for the hundreds of hours given each year to support enrichment in the York Schools.
When we asked Steve why he does it and what he enjoys about it he said:
“The student actors & techs I work with put so much of themselves into each production….they are inspiring! Working with these young people over years and seeing them grow as performers brings me real joy. In return, I want to ensure they have a great experience and that the theater tech helps them put on a top notch performance. Also, the team of volunteers I get to work with are wonderful! There is so much that goes into a successful production and it couldn't be done without the other volunteers and the whole crew of parents that support live theater in York, I love working with them!”

2023-2024 Student Transportation Plan Survey
August 1, 2023
We hope you are enjoying your summer break. Our staff is working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the start of the school year. One of the areas we need your help is by getting the necessary information to determine bus transportation routes. In order to set these routes, please complete this brief survey: https://bit.ly/3OF4fQZ. Ledgemere needs your input no later than this Sunday, August 6th.
We are asking for this information for EACH student who rides the bus. That could mean that whether your child rides every day, only in the mornings or afternoons, or only between sports seasons, we'd still like you to complete a survey for them.
Your information will help establish the need for busing to and from the York School Department schools and help improve your child’s safety, comfort, and overall experience.
Transportation resources can be found on the York Schools website at https://www.yorkschools.org/page/transportation.
Enjoy the last few weeks of the summer break. We look forward to a strong start to the school year.
Thank you!

The first VES Library Book Swap will be taking place the week of June 5th. The concept is simple: students can bring in 1 gently used, age appropriate book before June 5th. Then during their regular library class that week, all students will select a "new to them" book to take home and keep. All students will take home a book even if their family did not send in a book to swap.
