This week's Wildcat Wednesday features our final retiree, Diane Garvey. Diane has been a lunch lady at YHS ( @yorkschoolnutrition ) for 8 years but has been in education for 31 years. Before joining our team here at YHS, she was a special education teacher in Connecticut. When she retires, she is looking forward to traveling -- she already has plans to go to Hawaii, Greece, Vail, and Florida next year -- spending time with her three grandkids, and improving her golf game! She is hoping to be back to substitute next year ... so we may be lucky enough to see her again. Thank you for everything, Diane. We will miss you but wish you the best in your retirement 🐾

This week's Wildcat Wednesday features another one of our retirees, Carl Gersten. Mr. Gersten has been a math teacher at YHS for 13 years and we will definitely miss his humor around here. One piece of advice he has for all of us is to put our phones down 🙌🏼 We may end up seeing him back in the halls of YHS next year as a substitute teacher (which will make our goodbye a teensy bit more manageable). Mr. Gersten, thank you for everything you have taught us and please know you will be missed. Enjoy your retirement 🐾

This week's Wildcat Wednesday features one of this year's retirees, Mary Mace. Mrs. Mace has been an Ed Tech at YHS for 17 years and her smiling face is something we will miss seeing every day. Our fingers (and toes) are crossed that she will return to be a substitute teacher next year (it makes this goodbye a little easier). Mrs. Mace, thank you for everything you have done for all of us Wildcats and enjoy your retirement. You will be missed dearly 🐾

Foods II Chopped final lab! Surprise ingredients: capers, pretzels, and shredded coconut for one group. Barbecue sauce, onion soup mix, and graham crackers for the other. Students needed to be very creative with this one. Congratulations to Thomas, Otto, and Theo for being crowned "Chopped Champions" and for earning all of the bragging rights that come with the title. Thanks to our judges, Emily, Neil, Ms. Grant, and Mrs. Costello!

It's officially open!! The Pathways "Zen Den" has been created to offer a community space for all of the students in the program to use when they need help focusing, managing overwhelming situations, or just need a place to decompress. This has been a semester-long project that has been worked on in their math classes. Students used systems of equations to compare prices and geometry to determine how everything could fit in the room. The students are proud (as they should be) of this space and Pathways Teacher, Christine Caprio, stated "it took a lot of sustained effort" to get the room open. Congratulations and we are so proud of the work put in to make this an awesome space 🐾
